About HUB

Powered by the mHealth Alliance (mHA), Health Unbound (HUB) is the interactive network and online knowledge resource center for the mobile health (mHealth) community. One of the challenges in advancing mHealth is that many of the projects taking place are isolated from one another, and are unable to share information and best practices. HUB aims to overcome this obstacle by enabling the mHealth community to exchange ideas, share projects and outcomes, and build connections among the dynamic mHealth community.

Through HUB, the mHA brings together individuals from all disciplines of the mHealth community, from developers to doctors, to generate collective solutions and inspire new innovations that will transform health with technology. HUB is also where the mHA offers its comprehensive database of mHealth technologies, programs, organizations and policies to promote collaboration of efforts and best practices from lessons learned.

The idea for the mHA and HUB emanated from a July 2008 conference in Bellagio, Italy on the future of mHealth. Participants envisioned an overarching "network of networks" to bring together diverse stakeholders, ideas, and activities โ€” a network to foster discussion and collaboration, providing the foundation for the meaningful use of technology in health. With your participation, HUB is making that network a reality.

HUB is sponsored by the mHealth Alliance, hosted by the United Nations Foundation.

Our Principles

Principle 1 | Connect

HUB strives to enable connections and break down barriers between health implementers, developers and donors.

Principle 2 | Encourage

Each HUB member is responsible for spurring dialogue, debate, and action.

Principle 3 | Globalize

HUB is a community of international reach.

Principle 4 | Iterate

HUB expects continuous improvement. HUB's goals should evolve with the community.

Principle 5 | Be Human-Centered

HUB is committed to engaging the user community throughout the design process.

Principle 6 | Be Open

Each user gets credit for the content they produce and can choose how and when to interact with the system.

Code of Conduct

This code of conduct covers our behavior as members of the HUB community in any forum, mailing list, wiki, website, Internet relay chat (IRC) channel, public meeting, or private correspondence.

1. Be considerate. Consider the impact of choices on HUB and our fellow users. HUB has thousands of users and hundreds of contributors. All contributions to HUB โ€” changes to documents, infrastructure, policy, or goals, and translations of content โ€” will impact the work of others.

2. Be respectful. Remember that a community where people feel comfortable is a productive one. We expect members of the community to be respectful when dealing with other HUB contributors, users, and people outside the HUB project. Everyone can make a valuable contribution.

3. Be collaborative. HUB is about collaboration. We encourage individuals and teams to work together inside and outside HUB. Collaboration reduces redundancy, and improves the quality of our work. Wherever possible, we should:

  • Work closely with upstream projects and others in the community
  • Work transparently
  • Involve interested parties as early as possible
  • Notify collaborators of project changes early on
  • Document our work
  • Inform others of our progress regularly

4. Consult with others. Social and technical disagreements happen all the time, and the HUB community is no exception. Resolve disagreements constructively with the help of the community and its processes.

5. Ask questions. Nobody is expected to be perfect in the HUB community. Asking questions avoids problems down the road. If you are asked a question, be responsive and helpful. When asking questions, take care to do so in an appropriate space.

6. Step down considerately. Make an effort to minimize disruption when leaving a project or changing roles. Tell collaborators you are leaving, and take steps to ensure others can pick up where you left off.
