Communicate uses mobile technology to provide a broad range of public and private organizations with information and communication services that seek to improve the health and well being of people infected or affected by HIV. The program recognizes the capacity of text messaging to communicate important messages. Examples may include regular messages from famous HIV-positive people talking against stigma, or simple reminders that AIDS is treatable and HIV is preventable. Functions of the system include mass messaging for prevention; mass information for positive living; linking patients and clinics; peer-peer support and counseling; building organizational capacity of HIV-related organizations; and monitoring and evaluation. The project was launched in 2007.
