Blog Tips and Guidelines
1. Choose a clear, descriptive title. Readers should know exactly what they’ll learn in the post by reading the title.
2. Brevity is key – as you write, ask yourself if you can convey the same idea with fewer words, and edit until deleting a single word will change meaning of the sentence, paragraph, or blog post. Short, simple, and keep only what’s necessary. Generally, posts should be fewer than 500 words.
3. Avoid jargon and acronyms, but if you do use them, explain what they mean.
4. Stick to one major focus per blog post.
5. Web users rarely read articles word for word; instead, they scan articles. Use bold keywords, lists, meaningful sub-headings, etc. Place the conclusion in the beginning, and add detail as you continue. Each paragraph should focus on just one idea.
6. Maintain credibility. Use quality images, don’t commit spelling and grammatical errors, and embed links to supporting references.
7. Educate, don’t advertise.
8. Be open to constructive reader comments.
9. HUB will not change the content of blog posts.
10. The views reflected on the blog are not necessarily those of HUB, its sponsors, partners, or other formal affiliates. Please acquire the necessary permissions for any images you use; HUB takes no responsibility for the legal status of images uploaded onto the blog.
HUB Database Submission General Guidelines
1. Search for your organization, program, technology, and policy before creating a new entry. If an entry already exists and requires changes, please (email the site administrator with your changes) rather than submitting a new entry.
2. Please enter the information for each field as clearly and completely as possible.
3. If your new entry references any organization, program, technology, or policy that is already in the database, please make sure that you use the same syntax. For example, if one of the projects your organization supports is ChildCount+ (and is already listed in the database), be sure to refer to it as “ChildCount+” not “ChildCountPlus.”
