PROGRAM
A mobile birth registration system utilizing Nokia Data Gathering was piloted in six counties including Montserrado, Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Bong, Lofa, and Grand Gedeh in 2008. The aim is to register 90% of all children under five years old through the Crisis Management Initiative, an initiative involving the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Liberia and members of the Universal Birth Registration Task Force. Plan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, UNICEF, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Crisis Management Initiative, launched the decentralized, computerized birth registration and certification system.
